FIRE HOUSE
Assignment
The objective for this project was to design a fire house. while designing the fire house we had to make sure we were meeting all the requirements of rooms and measurements we needed to make it ADA accessible.
DESIGN CONCEPT
While designing my fire house I wanted to make sure I would please the community as well as the firemen who will be using it. In the building I have all the essentials for the fire department to be comfortable while they are on duty and waiting for calls. In my building I also have a big meeting room for the community to use. In my design I also wanted the building to have solar panels. This is showing the community this is a green building that is helping the environment. I also tried to maintain as many trees as possible that were on the site. I only cut out what was necessary for the safety of the community while the trucks will be exiting and arriving at the building making sure no traffic hazards will happen as the fire trucks will be capable of driving out and driving in smoothly blocking no traffic on the road. On my site I wanted the community to feel welcomed so I have included a park for the families and kids as it will contain a playground area as well as a barbecue area for families to gather.
Site Location
The site we were given is located in Central Islip. The lot next to it is an abandoned building which in the future could be removed and something new could be built with a new fire house next to it. Other then the abandoned building it is mostly residential homes and apartments surrounding this lot.
Research
Prior to starting the design phase, as a group we researched fire houses and looked at plans to a fire house to get a feeling of what a fire house looks like and essential parts to a fire house. As we all may know brick is a tradition to fire house exteriors and i wanted to maintain the tradition for the fire department.
